Fun with Water Games

August 12, 2020 by Stacy Menz

How is it already August?? We hope that this month brings a little sunshine and lets us get some fun time outside! With overall limited options available this year, we wanted to provide you with some family fun activities – all involving the kid friendly and loved component of water!

Water table: These are great for younger kiddos who are working on standing and/or just starting to walk. The entertainment of water can be a lot more motivating than standing at the sofa!

Water balloon toss: Let’s not forget about this classic! This helps works on hand-eye coordination and throwing coordination as well. Mix it up – make one round an overhand toss and the next round an underhand toss! The popping part of this activity also acts as sensory input for your child

Spray bottle fun: Spray bottles are simple, re-usable, and children always seem to love getting to use them! Here are some game options to do with a spray bottle:

-Spray bottle tag: Great for older kids! Just like a game of tag, only the water spray is the “tag”

-Sidewalk creations: Use an open sidewalk space to create a picture or word by spraying with the water. A great option for older kids: play “pictionary” style – can the word or picture be guessed before it dries??

Diving ring pick up: This is a great activity to practice standing on one foot and coordination at the same time! A kiddie pool can be great for this – simply fill up a kiddie pool with some diving toys and have your child try and see how many toys they can pick up with only their feet!

-Increase the challenge! Set a timer and see if they can beat their own score/amount of toys collected each round

-Friendly competition: who can collect the most?

-We love a diving toy variety pack to give an extra challenge – the different toys provide different sensory input and require changing of how they use their feet to pick the toy up which helps work on motor planning and body awareness

What Clients Are Saying

“My child has been diagnosed with hypotonia, we brought him to Starfish Physical Therapy since he was 8 months, he started from not moving at all, to crawling, to a little walker, he is now 3 years old running around everywhere with confidence and happiness. We can see his obvious improvement , that just tears us up sometimes! Every exercise he did in each session and everything the therapist thought he was applying into his daily life. Moreover, Starfish therapists are so nice and loving, the session is not just a therapy activity anymore, it becomes a part of our family life, the most important exciting activity for my son every week. Starfish is our family!! We feel so lucky to have Starfish helping our son, the endless effort you provided to him, changed his life. As a parent, nothing is more grateful than this.”
