A while ago we did a post on how to progress dribbling a playground size ball starting with two hands and working down to one hand while walking. Here is a video also explaining the process also:
Another way we have worked on dribbling a ball is for kids that have a hard time understanding the concept. We have a few kids who were trying to bend at the knees to meet the ball rather than using their arm and creating force. So, we had them start with a larger therapy size ball and we did some hand over hand dribbling. Because of the size of the ball compared to their size, they had to stand more upright. We then slowly made the ball smaller (we have lots of sizes of therapy balls) and had them practice. We redid some hand over hand if it was needed. Eventually we got down to a playground size ball and then that’s when we went through the steps that we talk about in the other ball dribbling blog!
How are you working on dribbling a ball with kids?
