Time to spread the love! Valentine’s Day is such a great time of year to practice both some fine motor and gross motor skills with your kiddos, so let’s get crafty!
- Valentine’s Day Cards
- Fold a piece of paper in half to create a card, and grab all your crafty materials to see what your kiddo can come up with! Use pencils and markers to practice writing, scissors to practice cutting, and give some freedom to allow those creative juices to flow!
- Heart Foot Taps
- Have extra paper hearts that you cut out from your Valentine’s Day card activity? Tape a few to a wall (different colors is best) at varying heights up to knee height of your child, and call out different colors to have them tap that color with their foot! This will help practice their balancing on one leg and also with following instructions as they have to find the correct color!
- You can also put them in a circle around them on the floor and have different colors for them to tap!

- Hopscotch
- Still have more paper hearts? Put them on the floor in a hopscotch pattern and have your child perform hopscotch on them! Get creative and make different patterns to practice their motor planning and coordination.
- Activity Chart
- Make a chart with 6 different gross motor activities for your child to complete and give them a paper heart to stick on the chart for each activity they complete! Once they complete the whole chart, they get to have a small treat of your choice (doesn’t have to be food, could be a dance party or a book to read together, etc) to reward their hard work!
- Examples of gross motor activities: jumping, squatting, bridges, calf raises, plank holds, running laps, climbing up/down their bed, mountain climbers, etc. – what else can you think of?
