The holiday season is upon us! This is a time of year to enjoy time spent with with loved ones. We know that this year in particular may bring more time spent at home and less time spent out and about at social gatherings. We hope that these active games will help to provide some entertainment over the next month!
Snowman Bowling
Decorate some white cups (or some back-stock toilet paper rolls!) to look like snowman using black and orange construction paper cut-outs. Stack them up into a pyramid or place them into a triangular bowling pin-style set-up then using a small sized ball or sock-roll try to knock them all down!
- To mix it up: Try standing on one foot while bowling, stand on a pillow while bowling, toss the ball with non-dominant hand
Snowman Building
For your little ones you can use the white cups or toilet paper rolls above and have them stack them up to make a snowman! It also works on squatting, reaching and balance!
Household Scavenger Hunt
Make a list of 10 holiday-themed items you have throughout your house (or place a selected group of items throughout your house in various locations) then see who can find all the items the fastest! To make it more exciting, have your child move about the house in a different way after they find each item: backwards walking, crab walking, side stepping, and skipping are just a few of the ways to get more movement in!
Candy Cane Race
For this outdoor activity you will need teams of 2. Each person gets one candy cane and has to hook it together with their partner’s candy cane. Candy canes must stay hooked together throughout the entire race – if one of them breaks or they come unlinked the team must start all over!
- To make this more fun: try incorporating obstacles into the race, for example, jumping over obstacles, running backwards, or having one person close their eyes.
