Some kids are really over the novelty of telehealth and the activities that have been successful, even if they were creative at masking the amount of work involved, are becoming uninteresting. This virtual treasure hunt worked for me to incorporate a lot of the “games” we had already been doing but present them in a new fun way that was engaging!
Essentially we took a few activities that we had been doing (see earlier posts on telehealth games!), inserted “clues”, and changed our language/presentation to highlight the adventure theme. In this particular adventure that was pirates! The clues were written on a white board on the therapist’s side and could only be revealed once the previous clue or activity was completed because it was written in magic sand. Here is an example breakdown of our Pirate Treasure Hunt. You can fill in any activity you want to meet the child’s skill level and what you are working on! Share with us any creative ideas that you’ve used!
