It’s definitely been a difficult time being at home all day and having limited ways to get outside to get rid of all that pent up energy. Here’s some ideas you can try in the comfort of your own home that (almost) makes it seem like you’re still venturing outside!
Biking
All you need is a bike with training wheels and a couple of shoes for this one. It’s still nice to bike outside if you can, but this is a good alternative if you’re not able to at this time! Put a video of some nice scenery or a neighborhood on the TV screen and take a “ride”!
Skiing
Place two pillows down in front of the TV about shoulder width apart. Have your child stand on the pillows and put a slalom or cross country skiing video on the TV. Your child can weight shift side to side while maintaining balance on the pillows to avoid all the obstacles or go through the flags on the TV! In addition, if there’s a jump off a ramp, that can be included as well. You can even have them hold two brooms or any stick like objects to imitate ski poles.
Snowboarding/skateboarding
This will be similar to skiing, except there will be only one pillow and the weight shifts will be forward and backward.
Roller Coaster
Place your child in a laundry basket and have them hang on to the sides. Put a video of a roller coaster on the screen and you can follow what’s happening in the video to simulate a roller coaster. As an extra bonus, this quite the workout for you as well! If you put it on a large couch cushion it makes it easier to rock in the various directions!
Rolling Down the Hill
Depending on the size of your little one you can make a hill out of cushions or use a mattress (crib mattresses can work) and prop it up on an incline. Make sure the area is clear and then have your child log roll down the incline!
Of course, it is always nice to take walks outside to get some fresh air too if you can!
