In the spirit of Halloween we decided to revisit one of our previous activities that we have written about before. We laid down a tape spider web using floor tape and we are leaving it out all month! The great thing is that we can vary the way that we use it. Here are a few ideas:
- Place items along the web (on the tape or in the open spaces) and have the child walk along the lines and then squat to pick up the items
- Use numbers or letters and have the child walk along the lines to collect them in the correct order. Make sure they don’t walk across number 2 before they get to number 1. They get to work on following directions as well as problem solving as they pick their route through the web.
- Use colors to help with color recognition
- You could even make it a game to avoid the spider web and have kids either step over the lines in to the empty spaces or jump into the empty spaces. It can be as simple as getting to an object that is ‘trapped’ in the web or there is a sequence that they have to do (letters, numbers, colors) in order to rescue whatever has been trapped in the web.
Those are just a few ideas. I love activities like this that are simple to set up and can be adapted in so many ways. It’s even more fun when the kids get creative with the story behind the activity!
